Chicken Skewers

 

Chicken Yakitori (Japanese sweet chicken)

Yakitori finished with salad, wasabi seawead and saki.

These are amazing on the BBQ. The sugar caramelizes on the chicken and creates a great taste and texture. If you make extra (I always do) they are a great between meal snack or an after the gym protein boost.

 

  • 1- 2  pounds boneless chicken thighs
  • 3 bunches of Negi (looks like a huge green onion) or a skinny Leek. If not available use red onion.
  • 2tbsp  sugar
  • 2tbsp  sake
  • 2tbsp  soya sauce
  • 1tbsp  mirin (japanese sweet seasoning sauce)
  • Wooden skewers

 

 

Place wooden skewers into water. Combine ingredients into bowl and mix. Cut chicken into thumb sized pieces (or a size easily managed on the skewer) and place into marinade. Let sit in the fridge for an hour (overnight is best). Alternate between chicken and Negi on the skewers.
